And Another One: The Future Awards Tosyn Bucknor Prize for On Air Personality Of The Year (Radio) Comes Home!
I was pretty nervous before this award ceremony which is rare for me. I think it hit me that this platform was to showcase the best of Africa and to speak to a large number of young Africans and I really wanted to share a few important things.
My life has led me down many interesting paths, but few quite as empowering, frightening and exhilarating as this path of story telling across multiple platforms. In the end I decided the following was what I really wanted to put across:
It’s the little things that count. Do small things well. If we each focus on our tasks and how to do them excellently, we will build a culture and a country that is focused on excellence. - Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well - John W. Gardner
Be kind to each other. See the human light in people you meet. It’s what helps to tell good stories. It’s how we stay honest. It’s how we build a better world. — A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats little men. Thomas Carlyle , Gentleness and kindness will make our homes a paradise upon earth. C. A. Bartol
The future is now. Cliche as it sounds, don’t imagine waiting till some future date to build your dreams, to do good. Don’t imagine there’s a better situation around the corner and then you’ll leap. There may be no more time. Leap now. Act now. Start executing. Where you are with what you have. Great things are usually done by ordinary people. So not despise where you are, open your eyes and see the possibilities for you right now . That is how we change the future. It’s right now because there is only now. —
“The future is now. It's time to grow up and be strong. Tomorrow may well be too late.”
So thank you to The Future Project for creating a platform for young people to speak out. Thank you for listening and reading. Thank you for acting now in the interest of a better tomorrow.
